Transition — Ship of Fools Gallery, Kirkwall

Five of my works were on display at the Transition exhibition at Ship of Fools Gallery, 21 Bridge Street, Kirkwall — a group show featuring emerging artists from UHI Orkney. The exhibition opened with a celebration and meet-the-artists evening on Monday 22nd September 2025, with general viewing running daily from 23rd September to 4th October 2025.

The show explored the space between who we were, who we are, and who we are becoming — bringing together painting, sculpture, photography and textiles from student and recently graduated artists navigating their own transitions. The theme felt close: much of the work I was making at that time was about exactly that — the body becoming something, the self at the edge of a change it cannot yet name.

On the theme

"Transition is not a comfortable place to paint from. You don't know what you're painting towards. You only know that the old form no longer holds. But that not-knowing is exactly where the most honest work comes from. These paintings were made in that place."

Works from the Transition exhibition may still be available. Enquire via the contact form for availability and pricing.
