2nd Place — Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2025, Student Category

Alona was awarded 2nd place in the Student category of the Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2025 for The Liminal Shore Portfolio — a series of three digital works made in response to the Orkney coastline, submitted as part of her BA (Hons) Fine Art studies at UHI Orkney.

The Liminal Shore Portfolio

The three works in the portfolio each respond to a specific stretch of Orkney's coastline, finding the mythic in the geological, and the intimate in the vast:

  • Golden Resilience at Yesnaby
  • Sunset at Yesnaby
  • Bladder Wrack in Dingyshowe Bay

Yesnaby and Dingyshowe Bay are among Orkney's most elemental coastal landscapes — the cliffs at Yesnaby in particular carry a quality of ancient endurance, battered by Atlantic weather yet luminous in the right light. The title The Liminal Shore speaks to the threshold nature of coastline itself: neither land nor sea, always in flux, a place where the familiar and the unknowable meet.
