Milestones: A Journey in Colour was a group exhibition shown at the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness in June 2025, as part of Refugee Festival Scotland. The show brought together works by Ukrainian refugees resettling in Orkney — artists who had spent the previous year taking part in regular creative sessions as a space for healing, connection, and rebuilding a sense of belonging.
The exhibition gathered paintings, drawings and personal stories reflecting moments of resilience and growth amidst adversity. I showed three works: the painting Selkie, the painting Path, and the short film Savage Song — an award-winning and multiply-nominated film that had gathered significant recognition on the festival circuit.
Selkie and Path both sold during the run of the show. Savage Song — the film — was shown as a screen work within the exhibition space.
"After fleeing the devastation of war in their homeland, a group of Ukrainian refugees resettling in Orkney embarked on a creative journey of healing and self-expression. This exhibition brings together art and personal stories, reflecting moments of resilience and growth amidst adversity."
Milestones ran from 21 June to 2 August 2025. BBC Orkney featured the exhibition and my practice in a broadcast interview later that year.
