The Becoming
Transformation is not a metaphor. It is something that happens in the body, over time, through loss and growth and choosing again. The Becoming is a series of figurative paintings about the long, uncomfortable, necessary process of change — the moments when a woman stops performing who she has been and begins to become who she is. Painted in oils, watercolour, acrylic and mixed media, these works draw on Slavic mythology, Japanese spirit lore, and the artist's own experience of displacement and renewal. Small & Sacred
Not all mythic things are large. Some are 30 × 30 centimetres — intimate, quiet, and charged. Kitsune
In Japanese mythology, the kitsune is a fox spirit of extraordinary intelligence — shape-shifter, guardian, trickster, bridge between worlds. The older the kitsune, the more tails she grows, and the greater her power. This series of original lino prints and acrylic paintings explores two incarnations of the fox spirit: the Moon Guardian, patient and luminous in darkness, and the Sun Guardian, fierce and radiant at noon. Each piece is a meditation on the kind of feminine wisdom that speaks before thought — the instinct that lives below language. Edge of the World
Orkney sits at the northern edge of Scotland, where five thousand years of human story lie compressed into a small archipelago of islands, stone circles, sea stacks and extraordinary skies. The Edge of the World collection is Alona Petliarska's response to this landscape — oil paintings and watercolours of aurora borealis above Stronsay, the Ring of Brodgar at golden hour, stone cottages holding on against winter waves, and the rare luminous days when the Orkney sea turns blue. Internal Spectrum
The Internal Spectrum is a series of three original acrylic portrait paintings — Vero (truth), Isa (stillness), and Caro (beloved) — each set against a monochromatic field of colour that functions as an emotional landscape. Red for the fire of action. Blue for the ocean of reflection. Green for the living peace of growth. These are not simply portraits.
